Bologna e Figli

The year 1848 was a year full of important events for the future of Piemonte and all of Italy. Furthermore, it is the founding year of the Bologna family's winery. As early as 1785, the first vineyards were planted with enormous effort on the best sun-drenched hills. The locations for each variety were selected with the utmost care. The love for nature and the unwavering desire to produce high-quality wines soon ensured robust, fruity red wines that are appreciated worldwide to this day.

Our task has been and remains, for six generations now, to create culinary delights at the table. With an awareness of this past and a sense for wine, we refine our grapes each year and find modern taste connections. The owners of the winery are Chiara and Bernhard Bauer-Bologna.

Chiara

Chiara, in the sixth generation, is the first woman in the Bologna family to make the management of the winery, along with all its associated tasks, her life's mission. At the age of 19, she studied languages and economics at the Catholic University in Milan and earned her diploma as a top-level sommelier from the "Associazione Italiana Sommelier di Milano," in order to uphold her father's legacy. With great patience and good will, she was able to create one of the best Barberas from the "hard soil" of Piemonte, which proudly bears the D.O.C.G. seal.

The family (Chiara, Bernhard, and their three youngest sons Lorenzo, Leonardo, and Valerio), the love for work, friends, and valued customers, along with an indescribably adventurous life, have made Chiara the unique and beloved person she is today, full of humor, wisdom, and a laughter that is contagious to everyone. Her life philosophy is:

"A day without laughter is a lost day."

Bernhard

In 1995, enchanted by the charm of my now-wife Chiara, I entered the Bologna winery as a beginner. Until 2000, I was responsible for sales outside of Italy, focusing mainly on Austria, Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Through tastings, culinary experiences with truffles, and various wine events, I was able to develop a broad clientele.

When Donatella and Gil Bologna retired from the winery in 2000, we took over the management of the traditional business. From that point on, I also became responsible for vinification, meaning the preparation of the wine. With the utmost care and love, and by reducing our wine range, a new era for our winery began. Since 2007, we have primarily produced our favorite wine, Barbera.

The focus on one product is the secret to our success.

Starting in 2014, we produced several spectacular cuvées centered around Barbera. With a proud note, I would like to mention the Più di Uno and the InaMera. In 2019, we introduced our Tentazione, which was produced in the style of Barolo.

The Bologna winemaking family, in the picturesque Piemonte, has been producing high-quality wines for generations and has been committed for years to combining the core product, wine, with all the pleasures that a “Bella Vita”, beautiful life, can offer. From the main production of wine to tastings, wine tours in Piemonte, culinary experiences with truffles, and winery visits. The Bologna family is dedicated to providing their customers and guests with a unique experience.

What better way to do this than to offer the family’s lifestyle in the traditional Rocchetta Tanaro near Turin, with its Barbera, Barolo, Nebbiolo, and truffles, to friends and clients? From this idea, the "Buona Vita" project was born, featuring holiday apartments located on the winery's property, within the area of the traditional winery. Between our family home and the cellar, we have built beautiful apartments for you that we are pleased to offer. We would be happy to introduce you to our surroundings.

Upon request, we can assist you during visits to restaurants, wineries, truffle hunting, and in providing unique local experience suggestions. More details can be found in the "Wine Tour" section.
